Student Travel Plan (STP)

The STP is a London wide scheme sponsored by Transport for London which we joined in September 2008. The purpose of the scheme is to encourage students and staff to travel more sustainably to College.

How to get to College by:

“Walking For Life”

To encourage more students and staff to walk, the College has purchased pedometers for everyone, which will only cost students £1. Using the pedometers, we will also be running a competition with a prize draw every half term for those students who walk the minimum number of steps. The more you walk, the more times you can enter.

All the Form Groups and Year Groups will be competing to see who walks the furthest.

Reasons to Walk

  • Keeping fit
  • Same time as waiting for and taking the bus
  • Not crowded like the bus
  • Choose your own route
  • Walk with friends – make it fun
  • Stop at new shops along the way

“On Your Bike”

In the Summer Term, a fully secured cycling compound for over 40 bikes will be built at the Winlaton site. The compounds will be used initially by Year 9 and 10 only. The cycle compound is fully secure and will be locked during College hours. We will also provide lockers for store storage.

To be able to use the facilities, students must have:

  • Completed the cycling College proficiency test (or Primary test)
  • Full time access to a bicycle
  • All the necessary safety gear including a helmet, reflective band or jacket and for the winter, front  and back lights

If students have everything they need, then they should complete the application form which will be available from Form Tutors.

(Note to staff: Lewisham also supports and subsidises a “Buy a bike” scheme for all Council employees)
